Physiology is the science of life. It is the branch of biology that aims to understand
the mechamisms of living things, from the basis of cell functions. Physiology stands on three
pillars or legs-Physics, Chemistry and Anatomy. In order to have a fair knowledge on the
subject, one should be well acuinted with the three basic scinces mentioned above. Studies
like the circulation of blood or the passage of ions across the biological membrane, etc.
involve the study of physical processes, taking place in the body and is named as Biophysics.
Biochemistry is that branch of sciece which explaines the functions of the body on a
chemical basis as might be carried out in a chemical laboratory. The study of structure of an
animal is the scince of Anatomy. Such structures, when studies with unaided eye is naned
Gross Anatomy or Macroscopic Anatomy and when studies in detail with the help of
microscope is called Microscopic Anatomy or Histology.
Without the knowledge of complte Physiology, no medical education is perfect. I wrote this
Human Physiology book for the benefits of the students of all systems of medical education.
This first edition of Human Physiology includes all systems of the subject. Each section of the
subject is described pointwise in clear and simple langause with appropriate figure.
My attemps have been made with an object to meet the requirements of a common
medical student. Sincere attempt has been made to deal, wherever required, the clinical
application of the subject.
